Ruth's started from a genuine desire to help people. Initially, those people came to Ruth's Foundations for custom bras and undergarments. As the customers expressed their health challenges to Ruth, she found another niche she could fill.

She thus started with a few products until gradually, the nutritional supplements became the primary interest. Ms. Ruth sold the nutrition portion to one of her regular customers, Earline Smalley in April of 1994. Earline's daughter, Cynthia Freese, now manages the store.
